Pathways to Music Making ~ RECORDER, Part 2

O'Neel's class

Last week, the Grade 3 students reflected on their recorder learning and playing. They worked with their recorder buddies on a written reflection that includes the following.

Fingering for notes B, A and G ~ most friends agree that we continue to work on correct fingering for notes. Sound production still needs to be reflected on.

Rest and ready position ~ we understand that being respectful while learning and playing is more important than playing the correct notes.

My recorder, myself and my buddies ~ some friends said that their buddies are the best, while others expressed that their buddies need to be more respectful.

Here are a few examples from our Grade 3 Music Journals. PAUSE to read a page.

Here we are playing our Recorder Karate white belt song, Hot Cross Buns:

. . . 2012

We’re almost there. Here is a great song by the Googoo Dolls. The song, “Better days” is all about the promise of a NEW year. Have a great holiday and see you in January 2012. Take care, Ms. Irene :)

Let’s Create

Congratulations to all the Grade 1 kids who expressed their creativity and learning during our concert last Friday, December 1. It was so much fun to watch you sing, dance and play to bring different poems to life. Here are some photos from our Grade 1 concert, LET’S CREATE:

After we returned from the October break, Grade 1 looked at their abstract paintings from art and wrote poems to match their paintings. This was a great way to “spark” our second unit in music, Pathways to Music Making.

The following question guided our learning throughout this unit and the creative process:

How can I use my playing or singing to make a song more interesting?

Grade 1 became so creative that we needed to broaden this question. :)

How can we use our playing, singing and movement to make a poem, song or dance more interesting?

Our concert theme song

To be continued with videos from our concert :)
